Aurora IL Homes for Sale
Aurora offers a revitalized riverfront downtown, a wide variety of neighborhoods and two Metra stations, all along the Fox River. I've helped buyers and sellers across Aurora for many years, from historic homes near downtown to newer subdivisions on the far east side.
Living in Aurora
Aurora is the second-largest city in Illinois, about 40 miles west of downtown Chicago. The city spreads across four counties: Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall. Its nickname, the "City of Lights," comes from its early use of electric street lighting.
Downtown sits on the Fox River and centers on Stolp Island. The historic Paramount Theatre hosts Broadway-style shows and concerts, and RiverEdge Park hosts outdoor concerts and festivals on the riverbank. The Fox River Trail runs through town for biking and walking along the water.
Across the city you'll find Phillips Park, with its free zoo, gardens and golf course, and Blackberry Farm, a living-history park on the west side. The Fox Valley Park District serves most of Aurora with parks, trails, pools and recreation centers. Shopping options include Fox Valley Mall and Chicago Premium Outlets.

Downtown & Historic Aurora
The area around the Fox River, Stolp Island and the Aurora Transportation Center. Tree-lined streets near downtown feature older homes with character, including historic districts and a notable collection of Sears catalog homes.
West Aurora
West of the Fox River, from the historic near-west side out past Orchard Road, with Galena Boulevard and Indian Trail as main routes. Established neighborhoods closer to the river give way to newer subdivisions near Orchard Road and I-88.

Far East Aurora

Homes in Aurora
Aurora has one of the widest ranges of homes in the western suburbs. Near downtown you'll find Victorian, Craftsman and other historic homes, along with Sears catalog homes and some mid-century ranches. Farther out, much of the city was built from the 1980s through the 2000s, with two-story homes, ranches and neighborhood parks.
The east and southeast sides include many newer subdivisions, and there are plenty of townhomes and condominiums across the city. Aurora also offers 55+ communities for buyers who want low-maintenance living.
Aurora Schools
Because Aurora is so large, it is served by several public school districts:

- West Aurora School District 129
- Indian Prairie School District 204
- Oswego Community Unit School District 308
Smaller parts of Aurora are served by Batavia Public School District 101, Kaneland Community Unit School District 302, Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 and Yorkville Community Unit School District 115.
Aurora is also home to Aurora University, a Waubonsee Community College campus and the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. School boundaries can change, so always confirm the assigned schools for a specific address directly with the district.

Aurora sits along I-88, with several interchanges, plus Route 59, Route 34 and Route 30 for north-south and east-west travel. Average drive times from Aurora:

By train
Aurora has two stations on the Metra BNSF line: the Aurora Transportation Center downtown, where the line begins, and the Route 59 station on the Aurora–Naperville border.
