Bloomingdale IL Homes for Sale
Around 23,000 people live in Bloomingdale, a vibrant suburban community located in DuPage County, approximately 25 miles west of Chicago. There is a blend of residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and green areas in Bloomingdale.
After the close of the Black Hawk War, Easterners coming west into what is now Chicago sought farmland. The Meacham brothers; Lyman, Harvey, and Silas staked squatter claims near the grove that later bore their names, Meacham's Grove.
During the 1830s, a stage line linked Meacham's Grove to both Chicago and Rockford, facilitating the passage of numerous wagons and travelers through the region. Bloomingdale, established in 1845, emerged as DuPage County's inaugural town. Its strategic location fostered trade, served as a pivotal stage stop, and housed the region's earliest churches.
The village of Bloomingdale was incorporated in 1889, and included Roselle and Bloomingdale, which shared items such as a fire engine and a library. In 1922, the two villages separated and reincorporated separately.
Over 160 acres of parks, playgrounds, and open spaces make Bloomingdale one of the standout features of the city. In parks such as Springfield Park, Westlake Park, and Old Town Park, residents can enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, picnicking, and sports. With its pools, slides, and lazy river, Oasis Water Park offers a refreshing escape during the summer. The upscale Stratford Square Mall anchors Bloomingdale's vibrant retail scene. The mall has a variety of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options, catering to a wide range of tastes. As part of its dynamic commercial landscape, the village is home to a variety of local shops, boutiques, and eateries.
There are several school districts in Bloomindale, including Bloomingdale School District 13, and Districts 93, 20, 15, 11, and 108, & 87.
A variety of transportation options are available in Bloomingdale, including easy access to Interstate 355 and Interstate 290, which facilitates commutes to nearby employment centers. As well as being connected to downtown Chicago and other destinations in the region, the village is serviced by the Metra commuter rail system.
The community of Bloomingdale combines the tranquility of suburban living with the conveniences of urban living, making it a desirable place to live if you're seeking a more suburban lifestyle close to Chicago's bustling city life.
