Stay up to date on the Glen Ellyn market
Glen Ellyn was originally settled in 1834 as a result of two brothers from New York, Morgan and Ralph Babcock and their neighbor Deacon Winslow Churchill and his family. It was first known as Babcock's Grove. In 1890 residents discovered some mineral springs near the town. The damming of the brook created Lake Glen Ellyn. As such the Village began advertising itself as Chicago’s newest suburb and health resort. National advertising placed the town on the map and was one of the most picturesque locations west of Chicago. The Village was incorporated in 1892. Glen Ellyn was a resort town for turn-of-the-century Chicago residents. The vintage architecture, tree-lined streets, rolling terrain, and quaint antique and specialty boutiques add to the villages New England flavor. Glen Ellyn has eight elementary schools & two junior high schools in Districts 41 and 89 and two high schools in District 87. There is also the College of DuPage with Glen Ellyn which offers a wide curriculum. The Village’s Park District maintains 26 parks plus the Village Links 27-hole championship golf course.
