Warrenville
The village of Warrenville is located a little north of I-88 in DuPage County and as of the 2020 census has a population of 13,553.
The Julius Warren family moved away from New York to start anew and traveled two miles north from what is now Naperville staying along the DuPage River in 1833 to claim land near a spring at McDowell Woods. Daniel Warren, Julius' father, secured the land near McDowell Woods while Julius gained property in the area of Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve. Understanding timber and grain, Julius built an inn and tavern in 1838 - this same building is still standing today following renovations that occurred in 2002. The family also built a lumber business and a house. A gristmill was built at the site in 1847, which attracted farmers from Galena.
Julius operated a stagecoach line between Naperville and Winfield. In 1902, the Railroad came through the town, which lasted until the late 1950s.
Finally, with 4,000 residents Warrenville became a city in 1967 after six unsuccessful attempts. Its population nearly doubled during the 1970s and 1980s due to westward expansion from Chicago.
At Butterfield Road and Batavia Road, downtown Warrenville is located. Among other things, a new police station was built in 1998, a new City Hall was built in 2001, a new Public Works Building was built in 2002, and additions were made to the library in 2003/2017.
Built-in the late 1980s located in the southeast corner of Warrenville is Regal Cinemas movie theater with 17 screens, family entertainment center Main Event Entertainment, and multiple eateries. There are several stores including a Super Target and several hotels. In Warrenville, you can visit Cantigny War Museum, Herrick Lake Forest Preserve, and Roy C. Blackwell Forest Preserve. These are scenic areas with miles of trails, picnic areas, fishing and boat rentals, camping, tubing, and more.
Warrenville is served by the Community Unit School District 200.
