Per the 2020 census, the village of Woodridge had a population of 34,158 and is located in DuPage County, Illinois, with small portions in Will and Cook counties.
Centuries ago, Potawatomie members made the DuPage River region their home; this land would later become the village of Woodridge. Characterized by high ground with abundant oak and maple trees, this area was known for its natural beauty. We can trace modern Woodridge back to farmlands inhabited by immigrants from Alsace-Lorraine, Bavaria, and Prussia. On August 24th, 1959, the village was incorporated with a population of 500.
Pomeroy Goodrich, a Vermont-born farmer, settled in the Woodridge region prior to the relocation of the Indians. In 1841, William Greene from New York constructed one of the earliest farms at present-day Hobson and Greene Roads. Numerous German farmers from Alsace-Lorraine also arrived during this time. For much of its history, Woodridge remained rooted to its farming origins; many DuPage towns experienced growth due to their proximity to the railroad, but Woodridge was largely spared the influence.
Woodridge was incorporated on August 24, 1959, by the home developer Albert Kaufman. At the time, it had fewer than 500 inhabitants. The village was named for its position atop a wooded hillside - locally referred to as "The Ridge" - which overlooks the DuPage River's East Branch. A majority of Woodridge's homes, businesses, and churches were built after the 1950s.
Woodridge is served for the most part by Elementary & Junior High District #68 & High School District #99. Some small portions of Woodridge will attend Districts Naperville District #203, Lemont District #113A & Lemon Twp District #210, and Bolingbrook District 365U.
The Park District maintains a well-allotted group of parks and green open spaces, plus offers a range of different equipment for picnicking and sports like basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, cricket, and Frisbee golf. Additionally, the Park District runs the Cypress Cove water park and the Athletic Recreation Center. The Skateboarders, BMX riders, and inline skaters can use the lighted skate park until well into the evening. The park district has constructed paved, dedicated bike paths that allow cyclists to ride through the town.
