Yorkville
Yorkville area was settled in about 1836. The town is located in Kendall County once the county was formed in 1841. In 1859 Yorkville was named the county seat for Kendall County and in 1864 the first courthouse was built in Yorkville. Yorkville then was incorporated in 1874 and consisted of mostly the land south of the Fox River and about 500 people. In 1957 another village named Bristol located on the north side of the Fox River joined and the two communities became known as the United City of Yorkville. In 1997 a new courthouse on John Street north of the river was constructed. The old courthouse was renovated and it is still used today for other Kendall County businesses and doings. Yorkville has both all the charm and appeal of a small town and the amenities and convenience of city life too. There are plenty of things to do from canoeing, kayaking, cycling, picnicking, and hiking in the summer to ice fishing, sledding, ice skating & skiing in the winter. Spending time at the Silver Springs State Park year around provides more area to explore with all your outside activities.
